My Approach
We all have an inner strength within us that requires coaching to see one’s full potential. It is my belief that through empowerment and strength-based practices, I am able to enhance the positive pathways to meeting the goal of a successful therapeutic and treatment process. My therapeutic tactic typically integrates a bio-psychosocial, strengths-based practice approach with great emphasis on solution focused theories and person-centered methodology. I consider my healing approach to be diverse, while maintaining objectivity and allowing collaboration within the treatment process. Much emphasis is also targeted towards my approach of being warm and accepting with the use of active listening skills and unconditional positive regard.
I grew up in a non-traditional home and with my past experience I was able to embrace a special passion for nurturing mothers as they too require empowerment and maintenance. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, it is also my passion to support individuals transitioning into motherhood or facing the challenges that motherhood conveys. In efforts to influence a population with a desired improved level of functioning, I implement interventions that are also specifically geared towards healing mothers. My professional goals also consist of supporting at risk youth on their journey’s to self-awareness through the use of self-empowerment and strengthening individuals and families through community outreach and linkages, mental health treatment, and substance abuse treatment.
I have an undergraduate degree from Norfolk State University in Social Work and a graduate degree in Clinical Social Work from Norfolk State University. I completed my undergraduate practicum experience with Portsmouth Drug Court and my graduate practicum with Norfolk State Counseling Center and a community based mental health agency servicing Hampton Roads. I have worked in various roles with the Community Services Board servicing adults with mental health and dual diagnosis. My specializations include Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Crisis Intervention, Bipolar Disorder, Child and Parental Conflict, Family Conflicts, and Mood Disturbance amongst adults, adolescents and children.
